Used 42RE transmissions are no doubt an enticing option because of they’re affordability. However, locating the exact match to your vehicle can be difficult and sourcing a properly functioning used 42RE Transmission may take several installation & removal attempts before getting a good one. This can quickly balloon into a lot of wasted time and money.  

 

A Rebuilt 42RE Transmission

The term rebuilt can have different meanings from shop to shop. For example, whether your rebuilt 42RE transmission will have all of the OE manufacturer updates and upgrades to increase its strength and longevity will vary from shop to shop. A standard rebuild consists of only replacing items that are completely worn out. Items that are marginally still good go back into a rebuilt transmission the way they came out. Have you considered why the average warranty for a rebuilt 42RE transmission is only 1-Year or 12,000 miles?

 

A Re-manufactured 42RE Transmission

A properly Re-Manufactured transmission will have all the OE manufacturers specified updates and enhancements necessary to ensure the proper function and longevity of the transmission for years to come. Assembly should take place in a clean dust free environment, just as it was from the OE manufacturer. A Re-Manufactured transmission should at least have a 3-Year Warranty. Not all Re-Manufactured Transmissions are created equal. Component selection, manufacturing and testing methods can vary from company to company.

  • Fully remanufactured torque converter is tested for leaks, lockup, concentricity, and balance. Upgrades exceed OE requirements and eliminate the possibility of front seal leaks, premature bushing wear, and vibration. Diesel and heavy-duty gasoline applications include new lock-up lining.

 

  • Custom-machined output shaft to fit both late- and early-style driveshaft yokes.

  • New external fluid cooler provided to improve cooling and prevent fluid contamination. 

 

  • All-new custom-spec bushings improve internal fluid flow control and pressures.

 

  • Fully remanufactured valve body includes updated throttle valve, manual valve, 4-spool switch valve, and pressure regulator valve for improved shifting, lubrication, and performance.

 

  • Modified valve body allows torque converter charge in park to increase durability and enhance gear engagements.

 

  • Oversized Low/Reverse brake band strut maintains correct band clearance to eliminate drum slippage and No-Reverse condition.

Q. What will I need to order?

A. Vehicle VIN # and current mileage.

 

Q. Can I install it myself?

A. Yes, Self-installation does not void your warranty.

 

Q. Does my old transmission core need to be out when the new transmission is delivered?

A. No, you have 14 days from the date of delivery to schedule your core return. Need more time? No problem, just let us know.

 

Q. How is the transmission shipped?

A. Transmissions are shipped via truck freight (18-Wheeler) through FedEx Freight or R&L Carriers. Depending on your location another carrier may be chosen to better service your area.

 

Q. How is the transmission packaged?

A. Your order will arrive securely strapped inside a sealed high strength polyethylene (plastic) container.

 

Q. How do residential deliveries work?

A. For residential deliveries, the carrier must transfer your transmission onto a smaller truck for delivery. The carrier will then call you directly to schedule an appointment for delivery. Because of the extra steps involved residential deliveries are $75 extra.

 

Q. What else will I need for install?

A. Depending on your transmission type some external components may need to be transferred over from your original transmission. For example, the neutral safety switch, speed sensor, tailhousing etc.

 

Q. Does the transmission come with fluid? What ATF fluid will I need?

A. Your transmission will arrive with approximately 1-3 quarts of full synthetic ATF in it from testing. The torque converter is already primed with fluid and does not need to be removed. You will have to top the transmission off with fluid before operating. We recommend using our full synthetic ATF or any popular brand full synthetic ATF.
